Planning a wedding is chaotic, magical, stressful, and exciting all at once, but planning an Indian-Italian wedding? That’s next-level! Since we had two weddings, one in Italy and one in India, I wanted to make both feel personal, warm, and us. And of course, being the DIY-obsessed person that I am, I took on quite a few projects myself! (Because why not add more work to an already packed wedding to-do list, right?)
So here’s a little behind-the-scenes of how I DIY-ed my way through both our weddings!
The Italian Wedding – Small but Personal
Our Italian wedding was intimate, just 40 guests, which meant I didn’t have to go overboard with decorations. But I still wanted to add some personal touches!
- DIY Welcome Board: I found a transparent acrylic board and used chalk pens to handwrite a warm welcome message. Added some floral decorations, and voilà!
- Handmade Flower Arrangements: Since I love florals but didn’t want to splurge on a florist, I arranged some small bouquets myself for table decor.

The Indian Wedding – Bigger & More DIY !
The Indian wedding had a lot more guests, meaning more space for creative DIY elements. Here are some of my favorite projects:
- Signage for the Flower Girls & Ring Bearers: Chalkboards, some chalk pens, and a little patience it was such a fun and easy way to add a personalized touch.
- DIY Ring Box & Boutonnieres: I used artificial flowers, leaves, pins and ribbon to create something special and handmade. (Also, major win: No worrying about wilting flowers!)
- Wrist Corsages for My Sisters: Made from coffee filters (yes, coffee filters!) as their base, flowers, and glue from a glue gun, super budget-friendly but still looked so pretty!
- Mass Booklets: I designed them myself, kept them simple and elegant, and tied them with chiffon ribbons for a delicate finish.

Wedding Favors – The Best of Both Cultures
Since we were blending two cultures, I wanted our wedding favors to reflect that.
- Italian Wedding Favors (Bomboniere): A classic Italian wedding tradition! We included five sugar-coated almonds, symbolizing health, wealth, happiness, fertility, and long life.
- Fridge Magnets: Featuring our favorite Indian & Italian foods—because food is life and the best memory to take home!
- Limoncello Favors: We bottled up limoncello, added personalized tags, and let’s just say, these were a huge hit!
- Wedding favor boxes: We packed them up in little green boxes and they were ready to go!

Reception Setup & Guest Experience
- Table Signage: Clear labels for favors, gifts, and a guestbook table made everything look neat and organized.
- Photo Booth Corner: We set up a small Italian-themed backdrop where guests could take photos and print them instantly—such a fun addition!

Welcome Bags for Italian Family in India
Since my Italian in-laws were traveling to India for the first time, I put together some cute welcome bags for them:
- Illustrated Mints (because they’d need them after all the spicy food!)
- Mosquito Repellent (a necessity in Bangalore!)
- A Custom Brochure with Bangalore tips, local phrases, and fun places to visit

Would I DIY My Wedding Again?
A hundred times YES! It made the whole experience feel so much more personal, and looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. Sure, it was a lot of work, but seeing our guests smile at the little details and knowing we put in all that love and effort made it so worth it.
If you’re planning your wedding and thinking about DIY-ing some elements, do it! It adds such a unique touch, and trust me, the memories of making those little details will stay with you forever. 💛
